It's that time of year again....CHRISTMAS! Yeah okay...not really, you can relax now :)
But my friend Robin, my daughter, and myself, are packing 50 shoe boxes this year for
Operation Christmas Child. Since we want to make them very personal, I don't want to wait until collection week in November to do all of them!
This year, each child we pack a box for will receive a HAND WRITTEN note (as opposed to last year when we photo copied our notes) from either Robin, the Bean, or myself.
Bekah wrote her own letter without my guidance.
These first 10 boxes we did were for girls ages 2-4. Inside each one is the following: Toothbrush, toothpaste, kleenix, soap, washcloth, a ribbon, sparkly bobby pins, comb, crayons, notepad, pencils, eraser, pencil sharpener, scissors, candy, t-shirt, undies, socks, stuffed animal, 2 toy rings and a bracelet, and 2 or 3 other small toys. And of course the hand written card with a photograph and contact info (we've heard back from several of last years recipients!) .
Another new addition this year is the Bible verse on the inside of the lid. We wanted it to look beautiful and fun when they opened it so taping this to the cover really brightened things up!
Packing shoe boxes is probably my favorite thing to do in the whole world. I could sit and watch videos of OCC distributions on you tube all day long (I don't, but I could!). The stories that come from this simple act are amazing.
Special thanks to my Mom for saving stuff for me all year long to cut back on the costs so we can pack even more boxes! :)
